A Guided Nature Walk for Families in Molenbeek
This Sunday, 25 May 2026, Scheutbos — one of the capital’s most beautiful semi-natural spaces — becomes the setting for a major Bioblitz organised by Natagora. The idea is to collectively record as many species as possible — plants, insects, birds, fungi — on the site in just a few hours.
What is a Bioblitz?
A Bioblitz is a biodiversity hunt that is open to all. No need to be a naturalist: volunteer guides from Natagora will accompany participants to identify the species found, explain the different habitats, and teach everyone how to see nature through new eyes. Children especially will enjoy it, armed with magnifying glasses, notebooks and a great deal of curiosity.
The objective is twofold:
- scientific: to contribute to Belgian naturalist databases and to better understand urban biodiversity;
- civic: to show the extent to which Brussels, despite being a city, is home to a rich, fragile and precious natural world.
Why is Scheutbos a hotspot for Brussels biodiversity?
The Scheutbos, perched on the western plateau of Molenbeek, is a Natura 2000 site. With its flowering meadows, orchards, ponds and ancient trees, you can spot foxes, roe deer, butterflies and wild orchids, sometimes just a few minutes from the metro. It’s exactly the kind of place that reminds us why Green Brussels is a treasure worth protecting.
