Why BXLpositive exists
Brussels is a European capital – multicultural, vibrant, and creative. Yet, in the mainstream media, it is too often reduced to its dysfunctions, its minor news stories, and its controversies. This skewed image harms its residents, businesses, shopkeepers, tourism, young people, and international standing.
BXLpositive.news exists to rebalance this narrative. Not by hiding the problems, but by shining a light on those who are solving them. We believe that a media outlet can be rigorous, sourced, and ethical while being resolutely constructive.
Our four founding commitments
1. No bashing
We do not publish to tear things down. We do not pick up on a controversy simply to prolong it. When a topic is sensitive, we look for the "solution" angle: who is taking action? what is working? what can be learned?
2. No clickbait
No misleading headlines, no manufactured outrage, no "you won't believe this". The headline says what the article says. The promise is kept.
3. No propaganda
We maintain independence from political parties, public institutions, advertisers, and lobbyists. All partnerships are clearly disclosed. No editorial line is dictated from the outside.
4. Always constructive
Each article concludes with a positive note, tailored to the subject and always different: a tangible impact for the people of Brussels, a victory for the city's image, a source of civic pride, or a positive signal for Europe.
Our editorial motto
"See Brussels differently. See it better. Tell its story accurately."
What we will never do
- Invent a quote or a fact.
- Hide a source or an affiliation.
- Publish an image of an identifiable minor without parental consent.
- Report on a minor news story with no public interest.
- Use AI to create a deepfake of a real person.
- Refuse a legitimate right of reply.
- Sell our readers' data to intrusive advertisers.
What we always commit to doing
- Cite every public source with a direct link.
- Clearly indicate when content is written by AI (EU Regulation 2024/1689).
- Examine every correction request case by case (no maximum response time guaranteed at this stage; urgent matters can be flagged).
- Publish our annual accounts as a non-profit organisation (ASBL).
- Give a voice to citizens who are taking action.
- Cover all 19 municipalities, not just the city centre.
- Work in French, then in Dutch and English.
