Ethics Charter & AI Transparency

Our editorial commitment and our transparency practices regarding Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on AI (not a certification). Last updated: 23 May 2026.

Our manifesto

  • No bashing — Brussels already has its critics; we focus on its solutions.
  • No clickbait — no misleading headlines, no manufactured outrage.
  • No propaganda — independence from political parties, institutions, and advertisers.
  • Always constructive — every article ends on a positive note.
  • Verifiability — all information is based on a public source, which is cited and linked.

AI Transparency — Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (“AI Act”)

BXLpositive.news is a media outlet assisted by generative artificial intelligence under human supervision. With reference to the transparency rules of Article 50 of the European AI Act (synthetic content), our practices are as follows (a description, not a certification):

  • Articles written with AI assistance say so in their byline (“AI assistance” and the agent’s name).
  • The name of the model used (e.g. google/gemini-2.5-flash) can be found in the metadata when it is recorded.
  • Every AI-generated illustration is captioned “🤖 AI-generated illustration”, with the model used and the generation date; it has no evidentiary value (it is illustrative, not documentary).
  • Every real photograph is captioned “📷 Photograph” with its full credit (© Author · Source · Licence). No photo is published without an identifiable credit.
  • No “deepfakes” of living real people are created. AI visuals depict places, moods, or stylised, non-identifiable characters.
  • No synthetic voices imitating an identifiable person are used.

Editorial workflow

  1. Detection: AI agents scrape identified public Brussels sources (BX1, Brussels Times, Bruzz, official press releases, local press, identified blogs).
  2. Selection: A ‘positive angle’ filter is applied — any news item where a positive angle would feel artificial is discarded.
  3. AI rewriting: The content is rewritten in the house style, with systematic citation of and a direct link to the original source.
  4. Human verification: The source, facts, and tone are checked before publication.
  5. Publication: Includes a visible AI notice, cited source, and an open right of reply.

Verification commitments

  • Zero fabrication: We do not invent, quote, or attribute unsourced statements. Any detected AI “hallucination” will lead to immediate correction or removal.
  • Primary sources: We prioritise official press releases and established press outlets. Blogs and social networks are identified as such.
  • Right of quotation: Short, attributed excerpts with direct links — in accordance with Article XI.190, 1° of the Code of Economic Law.

Positivity score /100 — how we calculate it

Each article displays a positivity score out of 100. This score is not merely decorative: it is the average of 5 criteria (20 points each), assessed upon publication.

  • 1. Concrete impact (20) — A measurable benefit: jobs created, m² of green space added, € invested, people reached, % reduction. 0 if anecdotal.
  • 2. Verifiability (20) — At least 3 institutional sources in the final “🔗 Verifiable sources & links” block. 0 for a single, non-official source.
  • 3. Inclusivity (20) — Benefits diverse communities: neighbourhoods, age groups, income levels, languages. 0 if it serves a closed niche.
  • 4. Sustainability / Replicability (20) — A model that is replicable or sustainable for more than one year. 0 for a one-off event.
  • 5. Brussels Originality (20) — A first documented by an official source; strong local character; a unique Brussels angle. 0 if seen elsewhere without a Brussels-specific angle.

Scoring scale:

  • < 60 — Not published (not positive enough or not solid enough).
  • 60–74 — Good local news.
  • 75–89 — Significant impact for Brussels.
  • 90–97 — Exceptional.
  • 98–100 — Verifiable historic milestone (officially sourced Belgian/European first, documented global distinction). Rare by definition — a score of 100 is reserved for landmark reference articles and is marked with an animated badge.

This grid is a commitment from our editorial team: a score is not an opinion, but a sum of factual signals that any reader can recalculate from the article. Disagree with a score? Contact us via our right of reply page.
