The BXLove Vision

Why Brussels deserves better than its current narrative.

The reality

Brussels is the capital of the European Union, the headquarters of NATO, a deeply multicultural city and one of Europe’s great capitals of the comic strip. And yet, its media image remains all too often dominated by crime reports, political gridlock and clichés.

Our five-point vision

1. Brussels, an unapologetically European capital

To tell the story of Brussels’ real role in the European project: the decisions made here, the tangible benefits for the city, the bridges between the European and local districts.

2. Brussels, a creative mosaic

A city of more than 180 nationalities, among the most diverse in Europe: Brussels’ plurality is an asset, not a problem. We will tell the stories of its artists, its entrepreneurs, its associations, its cuisines, and its neighbourhood festivals.

3. Brussels, a city as a laboratory

From soft mobility to low-carbon neighbourhoods, from citizen cooperatives to fab labs: Brussels is testing urban solutions that deserve to be told.

4. Brussels, a city of 19 municipalities

Not just the Pentagon. Anderlecht, Molenbeek, Schaerbeek, Forest, Jette, Evere, Berchem, Woluwe, Auderghem… each municipality has its own hidden gems. We visit them all.

5. Brussels, a source of civic pride

Giving a voice to those who make the city what it is every day: shopkeepers, teachers, healthcare workers, volunteers, the young, and the old.

The desired effect

  • A resident of Brussels who closes an article feeling prouder of their city than before.
  • A visitor who discovers an unexpected side to Brussels.
  • A European decision-maker who sees the host city in a new light.
  • An investor who spots a local opportunity.
  • A young person from Brussels who sees their future here rather than elsewhere.

Our theory of change

A positive and rigorous narrative, repeated daily, eventually shifts perception. Perception shifts behaviour (visits, investment, applications, votes). Behaviour shifts reality. It is slow. It is true.

Success indicators (published annually)

  • Number of articles published per municipality (target: a 19/19 balance).
  • Number of citizen initiatives highlighted.
  • Uptake of our stories by other media outlets (agenda-setting effect).
  • Reader satisfaction rate (annual survey).
  • Rate of right-to-reply requests accepted (transparency).

‘Positive’ does not mean ‘naïve’

Positive does not mean blind. It means solutions-oriented. When a problem exists, we look for those who are solving it, and we tell their story. Solutions journalism is a well-documented school of thought (Solutions Journalism Network, Reporters d'Espoirs, Sparknews) — one that we subscribe to.

The next logical steps: our manifesto, our ethical charter, press + AI, verifiable sources.
