Brasserie Ommegang: terrace before the storm on the left, fallen tree on the terrace on the right

A fallen tree on a terrace, injured people and a shaken team: on Friday 23 October 2026, storm Austen struck brasserie Ommegang on Rue du Marché aux Herbes in central Brussels. Our first thoughts are with those injured and their loved ones. We also offer our full support to the brasserie’s entire team.

A special thought for those injured

BX1 reports that a tree fell on the terrace at around 2.40 pm on Friday 23 October. Three people were injured and taken to hospital, a figure also reported by BRUZZ.

In her public post, Florence Frelinx refers to one injured person and says their life is fortunately no longer in danger. This clarification concerns the person mentioned in her post; it is not a medical assessment of all three casualties reported by the press. We wish everyone injured a speedy recovery.

Operational this Saturday: all reservations remain confirmed

In the official communication provided to our newsroom, management confirms that Brasserie Ommegang is operational this Saturday 24 October and all reservations remain confirmed. The entire team is working to remove the traces of the storm and thanks guests for their trust and understanding.

To the entire Ommegang team: our full support. Behind a brasserie are people, hard work and a place to meet. Today our message is one of solidarity. 💙

Thank you to the City’s teams and Florence Frelinx

Florence Frelinx says the Green Spaces, Public Cleanliness and Police teams immediately mobilised to secure the site and clear the roads. She thanks them for their availability and professionalism, calling them the beating heart of the city.

In the same post, she describes the fall as unforeseeable. She says examination of the fallen tree and the lifting of neighbouring trees’ roots revealed an imminent risk. She announces that those trees must be felled for safety and says replanting will take place as soon as possible. We report her explanation, without presenting it as an independent expert assessment or adding a planting date.

We join her in thanking the teams. Thank you also to first alderwoman Florence Frelinx for her visit, reported to our newsroom; her post carries the location Agora Markt Brussel.

To those injured, their loved ones and the whole team: Brussels is thinking of you.

Official management communication FR/NL/EN and information on the visit: provided to our newsroom on 24 October 2026.

A beautiful city-centre brasserie, with carbonade in the spotlight

I also wish to recall that, in my view, Brasserie Ommegang is among the most beautiful establishments in the city centre, serving the best carbonade in Brussels. This personal appreciation accompanies my support for the entire team today.
