Brussels: The Heart of the Belgian Startup Ecosystem
When people talk about the Belgian startup capital, it’s no longer just an empty phrase. Season 2 of the Belgium Startup Awards (BSA) has just completed its selection phase: 51 finalists have been chosen from 75 applicants nationwide, following a week of Selection Pitches held in 8 innovation hubs. Among them, BeCentral, the digital campus located above Brussels Central Station, has played its role as a national platform.
And it is also in Brussels, on 2 June 2026, that the entire ecosystem will gather for the awards ceremony — part of a full day of conferences, pitches and networking between founders, investors and major corporations.
Six Award Categories Guided by Real-World Impact
The BSAs recognise Belgium’s rising stars in six categories that effectively map out the economy of the future: AI, Consumers, B2B, SaaS, Platforms and Impact. The selection was based on three stated criteria: potential for innovation and disruption, team quality and vision, and economic viability and growth potential.
Among the finalists are, for example, Aidoptation, Cavell and Wonka AI in artificial intelligence; Beer Crackers, Ecopop and Gentlee in the consumer category; and Ark Capture Solutions, Fuzz, Go Ocean, No Waste Republic and Nolla Care in the Impact category — a section that in itself illustrates the growing importance of projects with social and environmental value in the country.
How Do These Startup Awards Benefit Brussels?
- A national showcase in the capital, consolidating its status as the meeting point for the Belgian ecosystem.
- Tangible networking opportunities for founders: conferences, workshops, pitch sessions and connections with investors and corporates.
- A tangible prize: A Live Pitch competition will allow one startup to win a €100,000 convertible loan.
- A positive signal to young Brussels talent: you can start a business here, be visible here, and grow here.
The competition’s initiator, Nicolas Debray, neatly summarises the philosophy: to build an ecosystem in a country where that is never straightforward, and to celebrate those who bring it to life — across regional borders.
What’s Next for the Finalists Before the June 2 Ceremony?
The date is set for 2 June 2026 in Brussels. Until then, the 51 finalists will continue their journey with Masterclasses, final pitches and a public vote. The capital, meanwhile, is preparing for an event that — beyond the list of winners — expresses a simple message: Belgium’s entrepreneurial heart beats in Brussels.
