Some evenings, Brussels changes its accent. From Wednesday 14 to Saturday 24 October 2026, the esplanade of Parc du Cinquantenaire hosts the second edition of Brussels Oktoberfest: a large festive tent, wooden benches, live music and beer served in one-litre steins, a stone’s throw from the arcades.

A tradition born in Munich in 1810

Oktoberfest was born in Munich in 1810, for the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. It has become the world’s largest folk festival, on the famous Theresienwiese.

In Brussels, the organisers promise the spirit of the Wiesn “in a warm, accessible and truly international setting”: Spaten Oktoberfestbier, typical specialities and live music. According to Belga, as reported by La DH, the beer, music, food and the 24 waiters and waitresses come straight from Bavaria, and three lorries bring 27,000 litres of beer to the Cinquantenaire, along with the long Munich tables and benches.

Who is behind the festival?

According to the same report, the event is jointly organised by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, Albert-Henri de Mérode and his wife, and event entrepreneurs Paul Le Grand and Jad Touimi. The organisers present their Oktoberfest as the only one in Belgium officially recognised by the City of Munich, and expect 14,000 to 15,000 visitors over the whole festival.

Because the Cinquantenaire, a landmark of the capital of Europe, becomes for ten days one big shared table where Belgians, Bavarians and Europeans raise a glass together. Arrive early, take public transport, keep your confirmation handy: let the party begin. Please drink responsibly.
