La Table de Mus — Floriane’s favourite

A table you return to for the emotions: the seasonal cuisine of Mustafa “Mus” Duran, in the heart of Brussels, and an art of hospitality that makes every meal memorable.

There are restaurants you discover. Restaurants you enjoy. And then there are those you return to, year after year, almost like a ritual.

La Table de Mus is one of those places for me.

I have been coming since it opened and, over the years, I have returned many times, often to celebrate a special occasion. A birthday, an important moment, simply the wish to treat yourself… La Table de Mus has become one of those addresses I naturally associate with beautiful moments.

And if I go back with so much pleasure, it is not only for what is on the plate. It is above all for Mus.

Mus, the art of hospitality

Mustafa Duran, whom everyone calls Mus, opened La Table de Mus in 2015 on the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés, in the heart of Brussels. Before creating his own house, he had already built solid experience in the Brussels Horeca scene, notably front-of-house and around wine, alongside several respected professionals.

But what strikes me about Mus is not only his journey. It is his way of welcoming people.

His leitmotiv, as I feel it on every visit, is ultimately very simple: making sure you have a wonderful time. He listens, observes, adapts. And above all, he wants to please.

With him, you can feel this is no ready-made formula. He truly bends over backwards to answer his guests’ wishes, to adapt to a table, an occasion, a special request. He wants everything to go well. And that kind of care, when you find it again year after year, becomes precious.

Memories that stay with you

When I think of La Table de Mus, certain dishes come straight back to mind. I remember in particular an absolutely exceptional smoked broth. The kind of preparation that looks simple, yet whose taste and aromas linger for a long time.

And then there is that dessert with sugar that crackles in your mouth. A little surprise that instantly took me back to childhood.

That is also what I love about Mus: this ability not simply to feed you, but to spark an emotion, a surprise, a memory. And after all these years, he still manages.

I might think I know the house, know what to expect, have already lived enough meals there to no longer be astonished… and yet he always finds a way to surprise me.

Because he remembers you

There is something else that touches me deeply. Every year, Mus does not forget my birthday. When I come to celebrate my birthday at La Table de Mus, he always has a little attention for me. A gift is waiting.

It may not seem like much to some, but to me it means a great deal. Because behind that gift there is above all the act of remembering. Remembering a guest who has been coming back for years. Remembering a date. Remembering a person.

And that is precisely what turns the relationship between a restaurant and its guests into something more personal. You do not simply feel welcomed. You feel recognised.

A generous heart

Mus is also, to me, someone with his heart on his sleeve. A generous personality, attentive to others, and whenever he can, he loves to help. That generosity shows in how he treats his guests, but it reaches far beyond the restaurant.

That is probably also why his establishment has such a particular soul. You can have beautiful decor, fine produce, perfectly mastered cooking… But a soul cannot be manufactured. It comes from the people who bring a place to life. And at La Table de Mus, it comes largely from Mus himself.

Ten years of hospitality

La Table de Mus celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2025. Ten years in the heart of Brussels, in a sector that has gone through many difficulties and transformations.

Over time, the team has also evolved and a family dimension has settled into the house, with Mus’s sons notably joining the front-of-house team. The cuisine, too, keeps evolving, while holding on to that desire to work seasonal produce with creativity. Gault&Millau highlights the house’s seasonal French cuisine, creativity and attentive service.

But beyond the awards and the gastronomic critics, what interests me here is what cannot be measured in a guide. Loyalty. The ability to make you want to come back. To keep surprising someone who already knows the house. To make a guest feel that they matter.

An address that became a ritual

Over the years, La Table de Mus has become much more than a restaurant to me. It is an address I happily return to whenever I have something to celebrate. A place where I know I will eat well, of course. But above all, where I know I will have a wonderful time.

And in the end, that is perhaps what I look for most when I go out to dinner. Not just a beautiful plate. Not just a good bottle. But an experience, an emotion, an attention. A memory you take with you when you leave the table.

Why this is a firm favourite

The smoked broth, the sugar that crackles and takes me back to childhood for a few seconds, the surprises Mus still manages to keep in store for me after all these years… and then that little gift waiting for me every year on my birthday. La Table de Mus is a restaurant I return to for the cuisine, but above all for the human being. For Mus, for his generosity, his attention and that sincere desire to please. And after all these years, he still manages to surprise me. That is exactly what I expect from a true favourite.
