Hello Brussels ☀️
There are mornings when the capital wakes up with a knot in its stomach—and then there’s this Saturday, 30 May 2026. Today, we’re getting our trainers ready, charging our phones, and heading for the city centre: the Zinneke Parade is back, and with it, the most beautiful living proof that Brussels loves Brussels.
Since 2000, every two years, hundreds of residents, schools, associations, community centres, and artists have gathered around one simple idea: to create a procession together that truly reflects the city. This isn’t a parade “for tourists”. It’s a parade by and for the people of Brussels, in all their languages, ages, and origins.
Zinneke Parade 2026: Start Time, Route, and Location
- Saturday 30 May 2026
- Starts at 3:00 PM — all the Zinnodes will set off simultaneously from different points along the route.
- Grand Finale at 5:00 PM
- Brussels-Centre: loop around the Bourse, Grand-Place, and Sainte-Catherine.
- Metros: De Brouckère, Bourse, Gare Centrale (STIB — contactless payment accepted).
- PRM (Persons with Reduced Mobility) area on the Place de la Bourse (booking required: jonathan+pmr@zinneke.org).
- Free entry. No tickets required.
A little tip from a local: wherever you are on the route, you will see the entire procession pass by between 3pm and 5pm. No need to run—just find a spot, open your eyes, and let the parade come to you.
What makes the Zinneke Parade a unique Brussels event?
The Zinneke is not a “professional” carnival. It is a community and artistic education project that begins 18 months in advance in the workshops of the MaZui (on Rue Masui, in Schaerbeek/City of Brussels), where people weld, sew, rehearse, and share meals. It’s an open-air school for street art.
The result: a procession where a kid from Molenbeek dances next to a granny from Watermael, where a brass band from Anderlecht meets a float from Ixelles, where Dutch, French, Arabic, Lingala, and English mix together with no one keeping score.
“Zinneke”, in the Brussels dialect, originally means the mongrel dog from the canal. It has since become a source of local pride and an emblem for a city that embraces its great melting-pot identity.
The Zinneke Festival: Before and After the Parade
Thursday 28 May — Joyeuse Entrée with STIB: surprise concerts at 7pm in Rogier and Bourse stations, and on board a line 1 metro train (departing from Stockel). Followed from 8pm by a walking performance from Place de la Monnaie → Bourse → Saint-Géry → Place d’Espagne.
28 → 30 May — Fête Permanente Parasitaire (Permanent Parasitic Party) at the Beursschouwburg. Free entry.
Saturday 30 May, 10:30 PM → 5:00 AM — Closing Night Zinneke × Kunstenfestivaldesarts at the Ancienne Belgique (BIS project, Tokyo b2b Akwefa, ANJEES G.G. live, aminabonthebeat b2b Mango Slut, Sarah Abd Ali).
A Parade that Celebrates Brussels' Unity and Diversity
At a time when “fragmentation” is a common topic, the Zinneke Parade is a reminder of what the City of Brussels holds most dear: a rare ability to bring together 184 nationalities in just 33 km², in good spirits, and without asking anyone to give up what makes them unique.
So this Saturday, let’s put on a colourful shirt, hoist the little ones onto our shoulders, and go thank the 2,000 volunteers, costume designers, welders, percussionists, and dancers who have been quietly working for the last 18 months to create the most beautiful postcard of our city.
See you on Saturday, 30 May, at 3pm, in the city centre. Bonjour Bruxelles. 💛
